Information we collect

Information you provide to us

• Account information. When you create an account we collect your name and email address, and either a password you set or the identity from your Google sign-in (see below).
• Profile content. If you join as an operator, we collect the information you add to your profile — such as your headshot, biography, work history, skills, testimonials, and links. If you join as a hirer, we collect information about your company and the roles you post, including any company logo you upload.
• Applications and intake forms. Before you have an account, you may submit information through our application or intake forms (currently powered by Tally), such as your name, email, company, and details about your needs.
• Communications. If you contact us or subscribe to our newsletter, we collect the information you choose to share.

Information from Google Sign-In

If you choose “Continue with Google,” Google shares a limited set of profile information with us — your name, email address, and profile picture. We request only Google’s basic email and profile scopes. We do not access your Gmail, contacts, calendar, files, or any other Google data, and we use this information solely to create and authenticate your Hello Generalist account.

Information collected automatically

• Authentication cookies. We set essential cookies to keep you signed in and to remember interface preferences (such as which side of the marketplace you last viewed). We do not use advertising or third-party analytics tracking cookies.
• Diagnostic data. We use Sentry to capture technical error reports so we can fix problems. Our Sentry configuration is set to not capture personal information by default and does not record your screen or session.
• Log data. Our hosting and infrastructure providers automatically process basic technical information (such as IP address and request metadata) to deliver and secure the Service.

How we use information

• To provide, operate, and maintain the Service.
• To authenticate you and secure your account.
• To match operators with founders and companies, and to display profiles to the relevant members of the marketplace.
• To communicate with you about the Service and respond to you.
• To monitor, debug, and improve the Service, and to protect against fraud, abuse, and security risks.
• To comply with legal obligations.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:

• Within the marketplace. Your profile and the content you add are shown to the other members for whom it is relevant — for example, an operator’s profile is visible to hirers considering them. Operators may separately opt in to a public profile page; otherwise profiles are only visible to signed-in, authorized members.
• With service providers (sub-processors). We rely on trusted vendors who process data on our behalf: Supabase (database, authentication, and file storage), Vercel (application hosting), Google (sign-in), Sentry (error monitoring), Tally (intake forms), and Substack (newsletter). These providers may only use the data to provide services to us.
• For legal and safety reasons. When required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of Hello Generalist, our members, or the public.
• In a business transfer. In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.

Our use of information received from Google is limited to the practices disclosed in this policy and complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Agents acting on your behalf

Hello Generalist is designed so that AI agents can act on a member’s behalf through an authorized interface. Any such agent can only access and act on the data that the member it acts for is permitted to access — the same permissions and security rules apply whether an action is taken by a person or by an authorized agent.

Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and thereafter as required to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You can ask us to delete your account and associated personal information (see “Your choices and rights”).

Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including access controls enforced at the database level and encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and rights

You can review and update most of your profile information directly in the Service. You may also contact us to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to unsubscribe from our newsletter.

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA) gives you rights to know what personal information we collect, to request access or deletion, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. Because we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, there is no opt-out of sale to make. To exercise any right, email us at hello@hellogeneralist.com.

Where your information is processed

Hello Generalist is based in the United States and our providers process data in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, you understand your information will be processed there.

Children

The Service is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be communicated through the Service or by email.
